I am closing in on my fourth year of parenting. This Saturday, July 24th, 2010, Nick and I will begin our fifth year of tackling this daunting, thrilling, exhausting, exhilarating vocation. I say vocation because for me it was a call. From the deepest part of my being, I knew that I needed to be a mother. What I did not know was that mothering would stretch me to the limits of my being in so many ways. I have found (for the second time) that the first two years of parenting can turn me inside out and upside down. It can shake me by the ankles and yes, indeed, can also send me to the moon with delight and pride and absolute elation.
So Happy 4th Birthday to the light that is my sweet Dina. And Happy Parenting Anniversary to Nick and I and to all the parents who are celebrating the birthdays of their firsts this weekend.
